Walter Abelenda

goto about us 2

My name is Walter Abelenda, and I am the artisan behind Arcos Zapicán. I specialize in the handcrafted construction of traditional bows, using natural materials and time-honored methods that connect deeply with our shared human history.

Each bow I create is a unique piece, shaped by hand with care, patience, and respect for the wood. I work with a variety of native and selected woods—each chosen for its particular strength, flexibility, and beauty. I rely entirely on manual tools, following techniques that have been used for centuries. This process allows me to remain in close contact with every stage of the bow’s creation, from raw wood to finished form.

My work is not just about crafting functional weapons or tools—it’s about reviving a connection to ancient traditions, to the rhythm of nature, and to the spirit of simplicity and authenticity. Every bow holds a story, not only of the tree it came from but also of the journey it continues with its archer.

At Arcos Zapicán, I don’t mass-produce. I build each bow slowly and intentionally, honoring both the craft and the archer who will draw it. Whether you are a traditional archer, a historical reenactor, or someone seeking a deeper bond with ancestral skills, you will find in my bows something more than just a tool—you will find meaning.
